Angela DeMontigny Turns Heads With Fabulous Indigenous Inspired Wearables

Posted on October 8, 2021October 17, 2021

By Olivia Belande,

Angela DeMontigny is a Canadian designer who is of Cree-Métis descent. She is most known for her stunning “Indigenous luxury” pieces, wearables that feature beaded motifs, hand painted details, leather and suede. Her breakout into the Canadian fashion industry was so incredibly important, because as we know, the voices of Indigenous creators have been marginalized for far too long.

DeMontingny’s work is both culturally inspired and fashionably accessible to the everyday woman, her ability to challenge what the mainstream knows as “Indigenous fashion” is unmatched. Demontigny’s clothing, in her own words, are “timeless pieces made from beautiful materials that literally last a lifetime.” (City News, 2020). Her collections have been featured internationally at both London Fashion Week and South African Fashion Week, and she has been seated in World Indegenous Fashion Council as the head of the North American division.
